Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally renamed “Little India” a street in Australia on Tuesday.

At a unique community event conducted in Harris Park, Western Sydney, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, ceremoniously designated a street in Australia as “Little India” on this historic occasion.

Long recognised as a thriving cultural centre, Harris Park is especially popular with the Indian population, who enthusiastically celebrate holidays like Diwali and Australia Day.

On its official website, the City of Parramatta referred to Harris Park as a flourishing and dynamic multicultural hub noted for its unique fusion of cultures and sizable Indian population.

“Wigram, Marion, and Station Streets in Harris Park, sometimes referred to as Little India, are home to more than 20 eateries and a variety of shops offering colorful saris, sparkling arm bangles, and authentic Indian spices that will transport you straight to Mumbai,” the City of Parramatta noted.

Prime Minister Albanese referred to Harris Park as “Little India” during the community function when he welcomed Prime Minister Modi. The Indian community’s contribution to Australian society was acknowledged, and PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the exceptional gesture by thanking PM Albanese.
