Nehru was India’s first Prime Minister following its independence in 1947 and was a key figure in the country’s freedom struggle.

Nehru led the Indian National Congress (INC) and fought against the British in an effort to free India from their domination. He passed away on May 1964.

Nehru served in office as prime minister from 1947 to 1964, when he passed away at the age of 74. Children used to refer to him as Chacha Nehru because he had a special affection for them.

Nehru’s birth anniversary on November 14 is also celebrated as Children’s Day every year in India.
