India and Kazakhstan convened in Astana to address counter-terrorism issues and exchange perspectives on cross-border terrorism in South Asia, as per the Ministry of External Affairs. The joint working group meeting facilitated discussions on various terrorist threats, including state-sponsored, cross-border terrorism in South Asia, and terrorist activities in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.
Led by KD Dewal, Joint Secretary (CT) of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian delegation engaged in fruitful deliberations with counterparts from Kazakhstan, headed by Talgat Kaliyev, Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting marked the 5th session of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, held on April 8.
During the meeting, both sides assessed counter-terrorism challenges such as the utilization of new technologies by terrorists, internet misuse for terrorist purposes, radicalization, and terror financing. Recognizing the significance of enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation, the delegations emphasized the need for information exchange, capacity building initiatives, training programs, and collaboration at multilateral forums including the UN, EAG, and SCO.
The engagement underscores the commitment of India and Kazakhstan to combat terrorism effectively, promote regional security, and uphold peace and stability in their respective regions and beyond.
