Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal
In a significant development, the Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until June 1 in connection with a money laundering case related to the liquor policy scam.
The decision, announced by the bench on Friday, provides relief to Kejriwal amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Kejriwal’s bail plea, arguing against granting bail solely for election campaign activities, stating that such activities do not constitute a fundamental, constitutional, or legal right.
The ED emphasized that previous instances did not see political leaders being granted interim bail for campaign purposes, especially when they were not contesting in the elections.
Kejriwal’s arrest by the financial probe agency on March 21 was part of the ongoing investigations into the money laundering case connected to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.
Recently, a Delhi court had extended his judicial custody until May 20, making the Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim bail amidst this legal saga a significant development.
