Prime Minister Modi Rallies Behind Indian Athletes Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics

On July 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with India’s Olympic athletes, expressing his confidence in their potential to excel at the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. This interaction aims to uplift the athletes’ spirits and garner widespread public support.

“Their life journeys and success stories inspire 140 crore Indians,” Modi remarked on social media platform X, urging the public to support the team with the hashtag #Cheer4Bharat.

The Prime Minister spotlighted several significant advancements in India’s Olympic representation this year. Notably, both the men’s and women’s table tennis teams have qualified for the first time. The shooting team includes female athletes in the shotgun category, and Indian competitors will debut in new wrestling and equestrian categories.

Modi also highlighted India’s recent achievements in para-athletics, chess, and badminton as signs of the nation’s rising sports profile. India achieved its best-ever performance at the World Para Athletics Championships in Japan this May, winning 17 medals, including six gold.

In chess, 17-year-old prodigy Praggnanandhaa made history in April by becoming the youngest-ever challenger for the world title after triumphing in the FIDE Candidates Tournament.

As the Paris Olympics approach, beginning on July 26, India is set to exceed its performance from the 2020 Tokyo Games, where the country won seven medals, including one gold. With significant progress in various disciplines, expectations are high for Indian athletes to make a remarkable impact on the global stage in Paris.
