Atishi Set to Become Delhi’s Youngest Chief Minister in Historic Appointment

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi is poised to make history as Delhi’s youngest Chief Minister, with her swearing-in ceremony set for Saturday at 4:30 pm at Raj Bhavan. She will be joined by five other AAP MLAs, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, while Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, will debut as a key Dalit representative.

Atishi’s appointment follows her unanimous selection as Chief Minister-designate during an AAP legislature party meeting, which came after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. Kejriwal stepped down after receiving bail in a corruption case but hinted at a potential return, contingent on public support in the upcoming Assembly elections.

As a Rhodes Scholar and Oxford alumna, Atishi will become the third woman to lead Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. Her leadership is expected to inject new energy into Delhi’s political landscape, with anticipated reshuffling in key ministerial portfolios such as finance, PWD, power, and education.
