Nation Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Their Birth Anniversaries

The nation came together today to honor two of its most esteemed leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, on their birth anniversaries. President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar visited Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary, reflecting on the principles of truth and non-violence that guided India’s path to independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Minister Manohar Lal and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, also paid their respects earlier in the day. In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his deep admiration for Gandhi, stating, “On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony, and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.”

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who shares his birth anniversary with Gandhi. Recognizing Shastri’s dedication to the nation, Modi highlighted his commitment to soldiers, farmers, and national pride, stating, “Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, who dedicated his life for the ‘jawan’, ‘kisan’, and ‘swabhiman’ of the country.”

Gandhi Jayanti, observed nationwide on October 2, marks the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born in 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Known for his leadership in India’s non-violent independence movement, Gandhi’s enduring principles of truth and equality continue to inspire millions around the world. The day also honors Lal Bahadur Shastri, celebrated for his leadership during challenging times and for the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” underscoring the vital role of soldiers and farmers in India’s progress.
