Explosion Near CRPF School in Delhi’s Rohini Sparks Investigation; Security on High Alert
A loud explosion occurred on Sunday morning near a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini, Delhi, raising serious concerns and prompting an extensive investigation. The blast, which took place around 7:50 am, caused damage to the school’s wall, nearby shops, and a parked car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police and bomb squads quickly responded to the scene, followed by teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Eyewitnesses described seeing thick white smoke after the explosion, and videos circulating on social media captured the aftermath. Initial investigations suggest the possibility of a crude bomb, although the exact cause is still under examination. Forensic experts discovered a suspicious “white powder” at the site, which has been sent for laboratory analysis, and robots have been deployed by NSG officials to scan for any additional explosives. The area has been cordoned off, with law enforcement agencies maintaining heightened security due to the ongoing festival season.
A senior police officer noted, “Our forensic team and crime unit are at the spot to collect samples from the blast location. It could be a firecracker, but we are investigating the entire matter from all angles.” NSG officials also mentioned, “Whether it is some kind of explosive or anything else can only be ascertained after we thoroughly examine it. We are suspecting a crude bomb could be the reason for the blast.” Delhi Police have registered an FIR under The Explosives Act, and are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to gather more clues.
Residents in the area were shocked by the explosion, with many rushing out of their homes and shops in panic. One eyewitness, Shashank, said, “The only possibilities which we think of are a cylinder blast or a building collapse… There was a big cloud of smoke here which stayed for a good 10 minutes.” Another local resident, Rakesh Gupta, expressed confusion, stating, “People came out of their houses immediately after the explosion. We are very confused about what has happened. Police teams are investigating.”
The incident also prompted a political response, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, addressing a press conference. They expressed concerns over the blast and raised questions about security in the capital. Sisodia emphasized that the responsibility for safety in Delhi lies with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and criticized the role of Delhi Police and intelligence agencies, alleging a rise in crime rates and calling for better safety measures.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Further updates are awaited as the probe continues.
