Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister Singh Pay Tribute on Infantry Day
On the occasion of Infantry Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering courage and dedication of all ranks and veterans of the Infantry. In a message shared on platform ‘X’, PM Modi stated, “On Infantry Day, we all salute the indomitable spirit and courage of all Ranks and Veterans of the Infantry, who tirelessly protect us. They always stand resolute in the face of any adversity, ensuring the safety and security of our nation. The infantry embodies the essence of strength, valour, and duty, inspiring every Indian.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his wishes to infantry personnel, emphasizing their vital role in national security. He wrote on ‘X’, “Greetings and best wishes to all ranks of the Indian Infantry on Infantry Day. Infantry plays a pivotal role in protecting our country. Their courage, valour, and sacrifice continue to inspire everyone. India is proud of its brave infantry personnel.”
In a solemn observance of the day, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and other senior officials laid wreaths at the National War Memorial, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by infantry soldiers.
Infantry Day is commemorated annually on October 27 to honor the landing of the 1st Battalion of the SIKH Regiment at the Srinagar airfield in 1947. This historic event aimed to safeguard the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the aggressive actions of Pakistani Kabaili Raiders, who were backed by the Pakistan Army. The successful intervention thwarted Pakistan’s attempts to seize control of Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant moment in India’s military history.
Recognized as the “Queen of the Battle,” the infantry’s legacy is rooted in the earliest forms of warfare, representing a crucial element of India’s defense forces.
