T P Gopalan Nambiar, Founder of BPL Group, Passes Away at 94
T P Gopalan Nambiar, the esteemed founder of India’s prominent BPL Group, has passed away at the age of 94. Family sources confirmed that Nambiar, affectionately known as TPG, had been unwell for some time and died at his home around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday.
A pioneering figure in the Indian electronics industry, Nambiar established BPL Group, which became a household name in consumer electronics. His contributions significantly shaped the landscape of the industry in India. Additionally, Nambiar was the father-in-law of BJP leader and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed his condolences on social media, sharing his sadness over Nambiar’s passing. “Saddened by the passing of Shri TPG Nambiar, founder of the iconic BPL brand, who has been a close acquaintance for a long time,” he wrote on ‘X.’ Yediyurappa emphasized Nambiar’s substantial contributions and lasting legacy, stating, “My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.”
Nambiar’s passing marks the end of an era for the BPL Group and the Indian consumer electronics sector, leaving behind a rich legacy that will be remembered for generations.
