Diwali Tragedy in Shahdara: Gunmen Kill Two Family Members, Injure Child
New Delhi — In a shocking incident amid Diwali celebrations, two gunmen opened fire on a family in Delhi’s Shahdara on Thursday night, killing a 40-year-old man, Akash Sharma, known locally as “Chottu,” and his 16-year-old nephew, Rishabh Sharma. The attack, which left Akash’s 10-year-old son, Krish Sharma, injured, took place around 8 p.m. outside the family’s residence in the Farsh Bazar area, stunning the local community.
According to police reports, the attackers approached the family, who were enjoying Diwali festivities outside their home, and bizarrely touched Akash’s feet as a sign of respect before pulling out their weapons and opening fire. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and seeing the family members fall, turning the festive night into a tragic scene of chaos.
Delhi Police received an emergency call around 8:30 p.m. and quickly arrived at the scene. “Our team found blood at the spot and evidence of gunfire,” a police official stated. The victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where Akash and Rishabh were declared dead upon arrival. Young Krish is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
Investigators have cited personal enmity as a potential motive, though they are still gathering evidence and eyewitness accounts to confirm this theory. Authorities are working to locate the suspects, who fled the scene and remain at large. Police have assured the public that they are doubling down on efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack, pledging to deliver justice to the grieving family.
This brutal incident has left the Shahdara community in mourning, casting a shadow over the Diwali festivities.
