Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Demands, Winter Session to Resume November 27

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday, with proceedings set to resume on Wednesday, November 27, as the winter session of Parliament commenced. The session, beginning at 11 am, faced an initial adjournment until noon following opposition demands for discussions on urgent national issues.

The day’s proceedings started with obituary references before Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House briefly. A joint session of both Houses was presided over by the Speaker before individual sittings began.

Scheduled to run until December 20, the winter session includes 25 working days dedicated to deliberating and passing crucial legislative bills. Sixteen new bills are set for introduction, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has undergone a detailed review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee led by MP Jagdambika Pal. Other key legislation on the agenda includes the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, the Railways (Amendment) Bill, the Indian Ports Bill, and the Coastal Shipping Bill.

As part of the session, Parliament will observe the 75th anniversary of the Constitution on November 26, highlighting its significance in shaping the nation’s democratic framework.

Earlier in the day, opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc held a meeting chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. The group discussed strategies to press for debates on allegations against the Adani Group, emphasizing their call for transparency and accountability.

With a packed legislative agenda and mounting political challenges, the winter session is expected to witness intense debates and discussions in the days ahead.
