Devendra Fadnavis Unanimously Chosen as Leader of Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis has been unanimously selected as the Leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party during a meeting at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday. This decision positions Fadnavis to potentially take on the role of the state’s next Chief Minister.

The formal endorsement of Fadnavis’s leadership came from the BJP’s core committee. Senior party leaders Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar officially nominated Fadnavis, declaring, “I nominate Devendra Saritatai Gangadharrao Fadnavis as the leader of the party’s legislative wing.”

State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule commended the party’s strong electoral performance under Fadnavis’s leadership, stating, “We are committed to taking Maharashtra to the number one position with the help of PM Modi. We should thank crores of people of Maharashtra for their support, as we contested 149 seats and won 132, which is the highest in history.” He also highlighted the victories of their allies, with 57 and 41 seats secured, bringing the Mahayuti alliance to a total of 237 members in the state Assembly.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who are the BJP’s Central Observers for Maharashtra, were present at the meeting. In addition to Fadnavis’s election as the party leader, BJP leader Ashish Shelar was appointed as the party’s Chief Whip.
