Central Government Fills Over 4 Lakh Backlog Vacancies for SC, ST, and OBC Candidates Since 2016
The central government has successfully filled more than 4 lakh backlog vacancies reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates since 2016, Union Minister Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
In a written reply, Singh emphasized that filling backlog vacancies is an ongoing process. To address these vacancies, all ministries and departments have been instructed to establish in-house committees to identify backlog positions, analyze the causes, and implement solutions, including special recruitment drives.
Streamlined Measures for Implementation
• Liaison Officers: Each ministry has appointed a Liaison Officer (ranked Deputy Secretary or above) to ensure compliance with reservation policies.
• Special Reservation Cells: Dedicated cells under the supervision of Liaison Officers facilitate effective implementation of reservation mandates.
Over 400,000 Backlog Vacancies Filled
Data from ministries and departments reveal that over 400,000 reserved vacancies for SC, ST, and OBC candidates have been addressed.
Time-Bound Recruitment Drive
The government has also directed all ministries to adopt a time-bound approach to fill vacant positions. This initiative not only addresses current backlogs but aims to prevent future occurrences, ensuring proactive representation in government services.
These efforts underline the government’s commitment to inclusivity, equitable representation, and empowerment of marginalized communities in public administration.
