India’s Thriving Startup Ecosystem Creates Over 16 Lakh Jobs
India’s startup ecosystem continues to flourish, creating more than 16 lakh jobs across the country, as reported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The department revealed that as of December 25, a total of 1.57 lakh startups have been officially recognized, showcasing the nation’s robust entrepreneurial landscape.
Notably, over 73,000 of these startups have at least one woman director, reflecting the growing involvement of women in the entrepreneurial sector. The startup boom is credited to factors such as affordable internet, a youthful workforce, and the expansion of technology-driven sectors, including fintech, edtech, health-tech, and e-commerce.
India’s emergence as the world’s third-largest startup hub is underpinned by demographic, economic, and supportive policy measures. With over 100 unicorns driving innovation and economic growth, the country has cemented its position as a global leader in entrepreneurship.
Indian startups such as BYJU’S, Zomato, Ola, and Nykaa have successfully ventured into international markets, amplifying India’s presence on the global stage. Additionally, the department highlighted the rising success of Indian startups in Silicon Valley, further demonstrating the nation’s growing influence in global innovation and technology.
