Assam Police sub-inspector arrested for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe in Karimganj

On Friday, a sub-inspector posted at Patharkandi police station in Assam’s Karmiganj district was arrested for allegedly having accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000. The accused has been identified as Jitendra Singha.

The police registered a criminal case against the sub-inspector after a video in which he appears to be accepting a bribe from a person at the police station went viral on social media.

As per reports, sub-inspector Jitendra Singha accepted the bribe in exchange for access to a report. The entire incident was captured on camera.

ARREST AFTER INITIAL INQUIRY
GP Singh, Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), said that the Karimganj district police arrested the sub-inspector based on an initial inquiry that was launched after the video emerged on the Internet.

GP Singh tweeted, “Reference video on social media – After initial enquiry, Sub Inspector Jitendra Singha of Patharkandi police station has been arrested by Karimganj police today for accepting a bribe. A criminal case has been registered.”
