Government gives green signal to assam’s coal-supari supply
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma has hinted at a green signal in supply from January next. The government will hold an all-party meeting next January to release the SOP in this regard. Jupiter Congress and AIUDF MLAs from Barak Valley in the House on The Baraak Valley on The Barak Valley demanded that restrictions be revoked in the local supari supply sector. Similarly, Congress MLA Rockybul Hussain, A K Rashid Alam Adi also demanded the withdrawal of assam’s ban on coal at the same time. In response, Chief Minister Dr Sharma said that there are four coal mines in Karbi Anglong in Assam. There are two coal mines in Umrangso in Haflong.
Umrangso mine has 35,000 metric tonnes of coal. There is current mining. Assam Mineral Development Corporation has submitted a bid in coal portal and has been given the responsibility of auction. Karbi Anglong’s coal The money from karbi anglong autonomous council and dima hasao’s coal will be received by the Autonomous Council of North Kasa. With that money, the autonomous council will use it for its work including paying salaries to the employees.
Referring to the severe damage to the brick industry due to stoppage of supply of coal produced in Assam, Chief Minister Dr Sharma said this has led to an increase in brick prices, Tea garden warehouses damaged, cement industry in Barak facing problems, workers of Dhubri-Goalpara working as coal workers in Meghalaya have been affected, truck traders in Assam have been affected. The industry department has also informed him that he cannot bring coal from Jharkhand and run an industry. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing is also facing problems. Chief Minister Dr. Sharma’s clear point in the context of coal is that continuing coal supply put syndicate pressure on him.
On the other hand, stopping the transportation comes up with the issue of price rise. So he urged the MLAs to think about it and said that the government will take a decision by holding an all party meeting on coal next January and publish the SOP in that regard. Similarly, In the context of the local supari produced in the Barak Valley, Chief Minister Dr. Sharma said that the present two types of supari come from Barak and Mizoram. Burmese supari also comes from Manmar. Which local supari and which burmese supari, The government will do so to monitor that.
Noting that the SoP will be published in the relationship between January 10 and January 12, Chief Minister Dr Sharma said that as congress AIUDF MLAs said in the House yesterday, BJP MLA from Barak Valley Krishnanendu Pal is also requesting him to allow local supari supply. So Kasar, The Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Hailakandi district has held a meeting with all the MLAs of the area and allowed the SoP in that regard.
On the other hand, making it clear that Assam cannot stop the supply of legitimate coal in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Dr Sharma said that coal from Meghalaya goes to Haryana. It crosses Assam to West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi. How will Assam stop it if no other state stops supplying that coal? There is also a limit to spoiling relations with neighbouring states. Assam will see if any illegal action is done from Margherita or Umrangso. But if there is any irregularities in the coal sector in Meghalaya, it will be looked into by Meghalaya or Haryana, chief minister Dr Sharma said.
