Former Principal of Assam Medical College, Dr. Sugan Chandra Jain passed away on Thursday at his own residence after a prolonged illness.He was 88. A humble, highly professional and outstanding administrator, Dr Jain was closely associated with various socio-cultural organizations, particularly with Rotary Club. He is survived by one son, daughter-in-law and other family members and admirers.
Dr Jain obtained his MBBS degree from Assam Medical College in 1955 and later FRCS from U.K. An ace surgeon of Eastern Region of the country, Dr Jain was the Head of Surgery Department and later adorned the post of Principal as well Chief Superintendent of AMC. After a successful tenure, Dr Jain retired from the AMC in 1991.
Dr Jain’s death was widely mourned by the faculties, staff and students of AMC. Dibrugarh District Rotarians also condoled the demise of Dr Jain and conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
