Bike thief, drug peddler injured in Assam cop firings

An alleged motorcycle thief got injured in police firing while reportedly trying to flee at Laharijan in Assam’s Morigaon district in the wee hours on Sunday.
The incident took place when the police were trying to arrest the accused, identified as Troilokya Bordoloi, 26, and recover stolen motorcycles from him. Bordoloi, who sustained a bullet injury on his right leg, was rushed to Morigaon Civil Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
GMCH superintendent Abhijit Sarma said, “The patient was provided preliminary treatment at Morigaon Civil Hospital. Here we have found an entry and an exit wound of a bullet on his right leg. There was no severe bleeding. We have not found any bone fracture.”
Sarma added that Bordoloi would be discharged in two-three days, if no complication takes place.
In another incident, a suspected drug peddler got injured after police fired at him while he was allegedly trying to flee to evade arrest in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday.
Based on specific information, an operation was launched in an area under the Juria police station. On being challenged, the accused allegedly attacked the police team with a sharp weapon and attempted to flee. In response, the police team fired at him, injuring his right hand. Altogether 59 vials of suspected drugs, Rs 10,200 in cash, a motorcycle and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession, police added.
