Centre Tells Rajya Sabha: 84,866 Vacancies in CAPF

Guwahati: Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stated in the Rajya Sabha that as of January 1, 2023, there will be 84,866 open posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of the country, as opposed to the 10,05,520 authorised positions.

However, the Minister pointed out that vacancies in CAPFs arise as a result of retirements, resignations, promotions, deaths, the new raising of battalions, and the establishment of new jobs in a written response to a question.

Mr. Rai further added that “recruitment of 31,785 persons in the CAPFs has been done in the past five months”.

One group of CAPFs is the Border Security Force (BSF), which includes the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and the Assam Rifles.

There are 3,706 openings in the Assam Rifles until January 1, 2023 in contrast to the 65,536 authorised posts in the force.

The CISF has 19,475 openings against 1,61,551 sanctioned jobs, the CRPF has 29,283 vacancies against 3,24,654 sanctioned posts, the ITBP has 4,142 vacancies against 90,728 sanctioned posts, and the SSB has 8,273 vacancies against 97,774 sanctioned posts, according to Rai.

The Minister responded to the query regarding the overall number of approved positions and open positions in the CAPF.

There were 2,193 doctors available in the CAPF when the complete number of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals in the CAPF were surveyed, with 247 positions at this rank remaining vacant until January 1, 2023.

The CRPF had 750 doctors available and 34 positions of this rank were vacant, according to data up till January 1, 2023. The BSF was next, with 545 doctors available and 54 unfilled vacancies.

The SSB and Assam Rifles both had 217 doctors available, however 45 and 5 vacancies of the same rank remained unfilled in both CAPFs until January 1, 2023.

The BSF has 1,791 nurses and professionals, followed by the CISF with 241, the ITBP with 1,531, the SSB with 515, and the Assam Rifles with 1,420. The CRPF has 2,900 nurses and professionals.

The report also noted that there were 1,330 open positions in the CRPF, 317 in the BSF, 81 in the CISF, 169 in the ITBP, 228 in the ITBP, and 229 in the Assam Rifles.
