SEBA Announces Fresh Dates For All MIL Subjects In Assam

Guwahati: The examination of all MIL/English (IL) topics for the current High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Class 10 examinations would take place on April 1, 2023, according to a Friday announcement from the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).

In light of rumours of a potential question paper leak, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the exams to be rescheduled last night.

The tests were initially slated to take place on March 18. However, one of the suspects who had previously been detained for his involvement in the leak of the General Science exam admitted to the authorities that he had also leaked the Assamese language exam during questioning.

Assam CM Sarma responded by ordering SEBA to reschedule the exams. SEBA has since announced a new date for all MIL/English (IL) subjects, which will now take place on April 1.

The decision was taken in light of the ongoing police investigation into the case and to prevent holding the exams in a vulnerable scenario, according to a notification from SEBA dated March 17.

The SEBA notification read, “This is to notify to all concerned that in view of the ongoing Police Investigation regarding the leakage of Question paper of the HSLC Examination 2023, and in order to avoid holding of examination of MIL subjects in a compromised situation, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam has decided to reschedule the Examination of MIL/ English (IL) subjects earlier scheduled to be held on 18th March 2023.”

“The Examination of MIL/ English (IL) subjects will now be held on 1st April 2023 from 9.00 am onwards in all the centres of the state of Assam,” the SEBA notification added.

Earlier, Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi had strongly criticized the government, the education department and SEBA for their inability in curbing the paper leak incidents. The opposition attacked the government and demanded the resignation of education minister Ranoj Pegu in light of the controversy.

It should be noted that the Assam Police’s CID is aggressively looking into the case and has made multiple arrests related to it. The investigation was started after the Assam State Examination Board (SEBA) cancelled and rescheduled the current HSLC test after learning that the General Science question paper had been leaked.
