Army Jawan Killed in Landslide Near India-China Border in Arunachal

Guwahati: A massive landslide claimed the life of an army jawan near the India-China border in Arunachal.

A squad of Indian Army men were involved in an operational job in the advanced area of the Tawang sector when they were suddenly hit by a massive landslide with debris of 6-7 feet, including fallen trees, rock and mud in the early hours of March 27.

Subedar AS Dhagale got caught in the rubble while everyone else was able to escape without suffering any serious injuries. A search operation was launched immediately to find him.

Subedar AS Dhagale’s mortal remains were retrieved from the landslide site on Saturday at around 10:50 AM following a thorough search spanning four days by numerous teams and specialised equipment. The District Hospital in Tawang has received the deceased’s remains.

Sub AS Dhagale was a native of the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. His wife and two daughters remain as his only survivors.

A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for Tawang before the delivery of mortal remains to the hometown.
