Haryana: Mob Vandalizes Mosque, Attacks Namazis in Sonipat
Guwahati: A group of about 20 rowdy individuals harassed those performing namaz and destroyed a mosque in Sonipat of Haryana on Sunday.
According to reports, the incident took place in the village of Sandal Kalan, where members of the same community attacked and destroyed the mosque.
Some 20-armed men attacked the individuals as they were saying Ramadan prayers in a modest mosque that had been built by the village’s residents.
A few images of them wandering the rural streets with lathis (bamboo sticks) in their hands have surfaced.
However, the reason the behind the attack is not clear yet.
Meanwhile, the police have detained 16 persons and filed a FIR against 19 people in connection with the incident.
As many as nine people who were offering namaz sustained severe injuries in the attack and were admitted to Sonipat Civil Hospital for medical attention.
They have been identified as Istaeq Ali, Alamir, Sabir Ali, Faryad, Ansar Ali, Julekha, Ali Taab, Nargis and Jarina.
Police arrived at the scene immediately to prevent a disruption of law and order.
