Punjab: Amritpal Singh’s Aide Held in Hoshiarpur

Guwahati: Papalpreet Singh, an assistant to Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh, was taken into custody by the Punjab Police on Monday in Hoshiarpur.

Papalpreet was captured after the Punjab Police and Punjab Counter Intelligence began a coordinated operation.

Papalpreet Singh was with the radical Sikh leader as he evaded the police dragnet when the authorities began a huge crackdown on Waris Punjab De on March 18.

According to reports, Amritpal and Papalpreet travelled together while switching vehicles to avoid being pursued by the police. According to CCTV evidence, they left Punjab and travelled to Haryana and likely Delhi before returning to Punjab.

On March 29, a video of Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh appeared online. This was Singh’s first public comment since the police began an investigation into him.

The Akaal Channel hosted the video’s debut. He said that he managed to elude the cops on March 18 and that he is now safe in the video. He claimed that he has no fear of giving up.

The sought man claimed that he would have given up if the Punjab government had merely intended to apprehend him and had come to his house. Against him, the police allegedly took action, and he claimed this was an “attack” on the Sikh community.

“We need to understand, this isn’t about my arrest alone. This is an attack on the Sikh community as a whole. I was not afraid of being arrested earlier and I’m not afraid now,” Singh said.

He continued by saying that by imprisoning Sikh youths, the government was continuing the repressive policies of Beant Singh’s previous administration.

Moreover, Singh has encouraged Baisakhi Sarbar Khalsa, a gathering of the whole Sikh community, to be called by Akal Takht Jathedar.

According to Delhi Police, Waris Punjab De, the organization’s leader, is suspected of having departed the capital. According to reports, after obtaining intelligence inputs about the sighting of Amritpal, a supporter of Khalistan, at Delhi’s ISBT bus terminal, the Delhi Police and Punjab Police began a search operation in Delhi and its surroundings. Intelligence reports have speculated that he might be pretending to be a sadhu. Papalpreet Singh is accompanying Amritpal Singh, reports said.
