PM Modi claims some people are complaining about credit in veiled attack on Congress in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the former Congress government while in Assam to lay the groundwork and inaugurate projects worth around Rs 14,300 crore.

On April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a veiled assault on the Congress party, saying, “When I talk about the development in the northeast during my visits across the country, some people start complaining about not getting credit.” They were credit-hungry, so the northeast was out of the question. We, on the other hand, strive for the benefit of the people.”

The PM also charged that the Congress-led UPA administration had a “step-motherly” attitude towards northeast India in a covert attack.

Moreover, PM Modi praised the BJP-led NDA administration, saying that in the previous nine years, 300 medical colleges have been constructed in India.

The Prime Minister dedicated the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Guwahati to the public on April 14 while also inaugurating three newly constructed medical colleges in Assam from the same location.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently granted permission to the three medical colleges in Nalbari, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar to begin offering MBBS programmes in the academic year 2023–2024.

Speaking on the occasion, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Today Assam is witnessing the inauguration of the 11th, 12th and 13th medical college…our aim is to establish 24 medical colleges in the state and we are determined to achieve the same in the 3-4 years.”

The inauguration was virtually held at the AIIMS Guwahati location at the city’s outskirts, Changsari.

Furthermore, Modi established the framework for the Rs 546 crore Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), a collaboration between the state government and IIT Guwahati.

The goal of the AAHII is to advance concepts and innovations in medicine and healthcare as well as to encourage multidisciplinary research and development in cutting-edge medical fields by fusing engineering and healthcare.
