Assam: Explosives seized from bus, one held

Guwahati: A huge cache of explosives has been recovered by Assam Police from Goalpara district on April 16.

The explosives have been recovered from a passenger bus at Krishnai of the district.

One person has also been arrested from the passenger bus bearing registration number AS-25-AC-5475.

A total of 1162 gelatine sticks and 998 detonators was seized from the person.

The seizure was made following a successful raid by the state police that was carried out in response to varying reports of explosives being transported in one of the passenger buses.

The bus was intercepted when it was on its way to Lutumbari in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya and Hatsingimari in Assam. 

The arrestee has been identified as Abdul Malek, a resident of Rajabala in West Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

However, the police are yet to ascertain whether the person who supplied the consignment is associated with any organisation.

However, the operation was carried out on the basis of a tip-off.

Meanwhile, police are questioning the arrested person to find out further connections to the seizure.
