Top Himalayan Leaders & Arunachal CM met in Tawang to convey a message to China
Guwahati: Top Himalayan Buddhist leaders visited Arunachal Pradesh and organised a day-long national conference on the Nalanda Buddhism Tradition at Gorsam Stupa, Zemithang in the Tawang district as a forceful protest against China’s imperialist aspirations.
This follows China’s recent move to rename 11 locations in Arunchal Pradesh, which is seen as a new attempt to assert sovereignty over Indian territory.
Given how uncommon it is for such prominent Himalayan Buddhist leaders to congregate in such massive numbers in a border state, the gathering sends a clear and unmistakable message to China in response to its attempt at renaming.
Around 600 delegates participated in the all-day meeting along with state chief minister Pema Khandu. The gathering is also perceived as an effort to support Himalayan Buddhism vigorously.
The final settlement in India before the Sino-Indian border is Zemithang in the state of Arunachal.
