BJP Gets Himanta’s Name Wrong In Star Campaigners List For Karnataka Assembly Polls

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is thought to be one of the most important cogs in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) machine, will be in for a shock when he learns that the party misspelt his name in a list of prominent campaigners for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections that was released on Wednesday.

The BJP released a list on Wednesday that included the names of prominent campaigners in ahead of the Karnataka elections, which are due for May 10. However, upon closer inspection, a blatant error became apparent.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the 40 names on the list. It also named Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as a star campaigner ahead of the polls.

However, the Assam CM’s name was misspelt by the BJP’s national headquarters. Instead, “Hemant Biswa Sharma” was used to spell his name.

It should be noted that national figures from all political parties, as well as the media, frequently pronounce the name of the Assam chief minister wrong. It has frequently been mispronounced as “Hemant” instead of “Himanta,” which may be what caused the mess.

It wasn’t the only obvious error on the party’s list of prominent Karnataka campaigners, either. The name of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was misspelt on the list, which was stamped with the logo of the saffron party’s national office in New Delhi. ‘Nirmala Sitaraman’ was how she spent her name.

The names of the current chief minister of Karnataka, Basavraj Bommai, and the previous chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, were likewise misspelt on the list. Bommai’s name was written as “Basavaraja Bommai,” however Yediyurappa’s name was written as “BS Yeddyurappa” on the list.

Furthermore, the BJP unveiled their third list of 10 candidates for the state’s upcoming assembly elections. Manjula Aravind Limbavali, wife of BJP MLA Aravind Limbavali, has been nominated by the ruling party to represent Mahadevapura.

Earlier, the party had released its second list containing names of 23 candidates for the assembly polls, while refusing tickets to seven incumbent MLAs, including Madal Virupakshappa after he was recently detained on accusations of corruption.

The BJP released their initial list of 189 candidates on April 18. The former CM of the state, Jagadish Shettar, who was a pillar of the saffron party in the state and resigned immediately after, was also denied a ticket. Shettar afterwards joined Congress, the opposition party. The date of the vote-counting is fixed on May 13, 2023.
