Sangeeta Datta’s police custody extended by 5 days due to child abuse in Guwahati
Guwahati: The police custody of Dr. Sangeeta Datta, the main suspect in the terrible child abuse case that shook the entire state, was extended by the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati on Friday.
According to information received, the court extended the police custody of Sangeeta Datta by another five days after the police had reportedly requested that her custody be extended by seven days.
Dr. Sangeeta Datta, the main defendant in the case, was brought before the court today after her prior custody time had ended.
On May 10, the chief judicial magistrate’s court prolonged Dr. Waliul Islam’s police custody for a further five days as a co-accused in the horrifying child abuse case.
After his five days in police custody were up, the city police brought the accused Waliul Islam before the court. The Guwahati police filed a request to keep Waliul Islam in jail for an additional five days.
Earlier that morning, Islam’s wife Dr Sangeeta Datta, the prime accused in the child abuse case was taken to the forensic department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) from Pan Bazaar Police Station for her health check-up.
On Wednesday, the GMCH’s forensic department analysed a blood sample and performed a health examination. Dr. Datta was previously ordered by the court to spend five days in police custody.
A journalist was taken into custody for his involvement in the horrifying child abuse case, which marked a significant development in the case. The arrested person has been identified as Abhijit Bose. He is allegedly the brother of Sangeeta Datta, the alleged doctor’s personal assistant.
As per reports, Abhijit had provided security to his elder sister through conversations over the phone. He was detained for giving the accused protection in accordance with Section 120(B).
