Manipur: Assam Rifles Provide LPG Cylinder Arrangements with Logistical Support

Guwahati: The Assam Rifles have assisted civil administration in obtaining LGP petrol cylinders in the wake of recent violence in Manipur because there has been a significant disruption in the delivery of necessities.

“Assam Rifles continue to render assistance in the trying times and arranged collection of 1,836 cylinders from Sekmai Bottling Plant, Imphal West District and delivered them to Indane Gas Agency distributor at Churachandpur district,” Assam Rifles said in a statement.

“Security forces provided administrative assistance for moving, collecting and distributing LPG cylinders in Manipur,” added the statement.

In an air evacuation operation earlier this week, Assam Rifles soldiers rescued 96 individuals who were stranded in Manipur close to the India-Myanmar border. All 96 individuals received rehabilitation at Assam Rifles Camp.

Meanwhile, Manipur is gradually returning to normal following a wave of violence that left 70 people dead and 1,700 homes destroyed.

Assam Rifles had also rescued 45 visually impaired children and other staff from Mission Blind School, Kakching, during the fighting in the first week of May.

Following the outbreak of violence in the State on May 3, a curfew was put in place, and the Manipur State administration strictly regulated the usage of the internet and mobile devices to prevent the spread of panic and false information. The All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) Manipur held a rally on May 3 in response to the Meitei’s demand for Scheduled Tribe designation, which later descended into violence.

According to the most recent statistics, the violence in Manipur resulted in around 71 fatalities and more than 230 injuries.
