Suo Moto Action by AHRC Leads to Multiple Cases in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Assam State Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has adopted a proactive approach by opening investigations and filing its own charges on numerous significant problems. The panel is intended to handle issues brought up by the public under the direction of the recently appointed Member, Shantanu Bharali.

The alleged harassment of members of the general public in several Guwahati areas by third gender individuals is one of the significant cases under investigation by the AHRC. Newspaper, internet, and social media reporting have highlighted numerous instances where third-gender males targeted victims and demanded money. A young child was abused recently on April 21 at Ganeshguri, close to Apollo Hospital.

The commission has called the Assam Police and jail administrators to provide a thorough report on the situation in light of these rising worries.

The AHRC has also opened proceedings in connection with the tragic deaths of two workers at the Oil India facility in Narengi. The commission attempts to learn more about the circumstances of these terrible occurrences. The commission has also taken up the case of Rinku Halar, who died at Nalbari Medical College from what was allegedly a lack of oxygen, displaying their dedication to preserving individual rights.

In a related development, the SHHRC has voiced worry regarding the illness of a number of kids at Khanapara’s Ganesh Mandir High School. The commission wants to make sure the right steps are done to protect the students’ health by thoroughly investigating the illness’s origin.

The State Human Rights Commission has independently opened more than 40 cases alone in the last week under the direction of Member Shantanu Bharali. The public has praised this proactive approach and recognised the commission’s commitment to upholding human rights.

Notably, the commission has also held the municipal corporations responsible for the insufficient rubbish cleanup on Lamb Road in Guwahati, demonstrating its dedication to resolving a wide variety of problems that affect the neighbourhood.
