Guwahati’s Appalling Road Conditions Once Again Highlighted

Guwahati: The terrible state of the city’s roads in Guwahati has once more come to light. A truck carrying sand became stranded in a water-filled pothole near Hengerabari on the wet morning of Friday, briefly clogging the area’s roads with traffic.

Guwahatians refer to the excavation of a portion of the road for the installation of a water line as a “common sight” because there are numerous such holes visible around the city.

In order to make the afflicted truck lighter and enable it to be pulled out of the dug-out pit, workmen are shown dumping the sand from it into another truck parked on the back side.

It is important to note that the holes were not dug properly, and as a result, they have turned into “death traps” for residents.

A class 11 student died in a grief accident earlier this month in Guwahati’s Ganeshguri area. After detecting anomalies in the work caused by carelessness to duty, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board filed a FIR against AK Construction Company.

One of the primary contributing factors to the accident, according to furious locals, was the presence of a dug-up pathway in the vicinity. Because there was no barricade surrounding the hole at the time of the accident, the already crowded road became much more crowded.

The construction company is accused of failing to cover manholes with slabs when necessary and failing to fix potholes once the job was finished.

One of the companies hired to work on the JICA-supported water supply project for Guwahati’s pipeline installation is the AK Construction Company.

Furthermore, a few waters pipe burst occurrences in the city have made the residents’ problems worse. Being the third similar incident to happen in as little as two months, the recent explosion of a water pipeline near Rajgarh Link Road caused a significant public outcry.

A Gammon JICA water supply main line pipe cracked this month in the city’s Kharguli locality, unleashing a tremendous water gush that damaged at least 40 homes and washed away several vehicles. According to reports, the incident affected approximately 600 people, and about 30 people were hurt.

One person, Sumitra Rabha, was killed in the incident. She was a resident of one of the houses that was damaged by the water gush.
