Oil Theft Racket Busted In Assam’s Duliajan; 4 Arrested

Guwahati: The once-thriving oil theft enterprise in Assam appears to have started up again with Dibrugarh police stopping one attempt on Sunday night.

As many as four people were taken into custody in connection to the incident. The arrestees have been identified as Sanjeev Chetia, Sanju Hatimuria, Mukul Hazarika, and Bitupon Phukan.

Based on specific inputs, a police squad under the direction of Duliajan PS Officer in Charge Bhaskar Saikia conducted an operation at the village of Bhadoi and found barrels of stolen condensate oil.

Reports claim that the four of them had been stealing condensate from Oil India Limited (OIL) for a while. A vehicle bearing registration number ‘AS01 AH 6966’ was also recovered from their possession.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

More arrests are likely, the police said, adding that the operation to bust more oil theft rings will continue.
