Tripura: CPIM Leader Urges Election Commission to Halt Politicization of Government Schemes

Jitendra Chaudhury, the Tripura CPIM state committee secretary and leader of the opposition, has penned a letter to Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal, calling for an immediate cessation of the partisan utilization of government schemes by the ruling BJP.

He also demands appropriate action against Bakul Debi Debnath, the BAC Chairperson of Hrishyamukh R.D. Block under South District. In his correspondence, Chaudhury alleges that since April 4, 2024, Bakul Debi Debnath, alongside local BJP leaders, has been distributing mosquito nets to beneficiaries across various GPs (37-Hrishyamukh AC of 2-Tripura East (ST) PC).

These distributions, conducted in the presence of Block officials and Hrishyamukh Primary Health care physicians, are purportedly accompanied by overt canvassing for the BJP among the recipients.

Chaudhury contends that such actions blatantly contravene the Model Code of Conduct. He reveals that approximately 11,000 mosquito nets were procured by the Block Authority a month and a half ago to combat malaria spread in the Block areas.

He criticizes the ruling BJP for not distributing these nets prior to the declaration of the Lok Sabha election and accuses them of exploiting the government scheme for political gains.Expressing astonishment, Chaudhury questions how the BDO of Hrishyamukh Block could permit such undemocratic and unfair activities during the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.

He insists on the immediate cessation of such partisan exploitation of government schemes and calls for appropriate action against Debnath.
