Haryana State Commission for Women Summons Congress Leader Randeep Singh Surjewala Over Remarks Against Hema Malini

The Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala to appear on April 18 following his remarks against BJP MP Hema Malini, deeming them ‘undignified’ and ‘vulgar’.

Surjewala’s comments prompted the Election Commission of India to issue a show-cause notice on April 9, citing that his remarks not only insulted Hema Malini but also disrespected her position as a Member of Parliament, while tarnishing the honor of women legislators at large.

In response, the Commission has urged Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to ensure that party leaders maintain respectful public discourse towards women. Noting repeated violations by senior Congress functionaries, the Commission has called for measures to ensure compliance with its advisories regarding the honor and dignity of women.
