Pradesh Congress Committee Demands Action Against SDM for Allegedly Targeting INC Hoardings

The Pradesh Congress Committee has urged the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Rajiv Kumar, to conduct a proper inquiry and take action against the Sub-division Magistrate of Mohanpur in West District. This follows allegations that the SDM directed Congress workers to remove their hoardings near BJP’s hoardings, citing government property.

In the letter addressed to the ECI, Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha highlighted that Subash Datta, the SDM of Mohanpur, allegedly instructed INC workers to remove hoardings in the vicinity of BJP’s on the Agartala-Khowai main road, particularly in Kalachara Chowmuhani.

Saha’s letter emphasized that such actions constitute a direct violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He argued that Datta’s justification based on the area being government property doesn’t hold, especially when BJP’s hoardings remain untouched nearby. Saha, who is also the INDI bloc candidate for West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency, condemned the selective targeting of INC’s hoardings as harassment against INC workers.

Demanding immediate rectification, Saha urged that if the area is indeed government property, all political hoardings, including those of the BJP, should be promptly removed to ensure fairness and impartiality. He asserted that discriminatory behavior against INC workers undermines democratic principles.

The Pradesh Congress Committee trusts that the Election Commission will thoroughly investigate the matter and swiftly take appropriate action to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
