Tragedy Strikes as Bus Carrying Distillery Workers Plunges into Mine Pit in Chhattisgarh
In a devastating turn of events on April 9, tragedy struck Chhattisgarh’s Durg district when a bus ferrying distillery workers met with a fatal accident, plunging into a ‘murum’ soil mine pit. The incident, occurring around 8:30 pm near Khapri village under Kumhari Police Station limits, claimed the lives of 12 individuals while leaving 14 others injured.
According to Durg Superintendent of Police Jintendra Shukla, the bus veered off the road, plummeting into the 40-feet deep mine. The victims, employees of a private distillery company, were on their way home from work when the accident occurred.
Durg Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary has announced a magisterial probe into the incident, aiming to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy. The company has pledged compensation for the victims, with additional support promised by the administration.
Of the injured, 12 have been transported to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur, for medical attention, while two others are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
