Assam: Alleged MCC Violation: Lakhimpur Police to Summon Congress Leader’s Brother

In the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Assam, the Lakhimpur police are set to issue a summons to Dipen Borah, the brother of Congress leader Bhupen Borah, following an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

The summons comes in response to an incident where Jintu Hazarika, the personal assistant to APCC President Bhupen Borah, was apprehended by the Lakhimpur Flying Squad for carrying cash amounting to Rs 5,30,000, along with ‘Nyay Guarantee Cards’ and foreign liquor bottles.

During interrogation, Hazarika revealed that the cash allegedly belonged to Dipen Borah. As part of the investigation, Dipen Borah will be summoned by the Lakhimpur police to provide clarification regarding the source of the money.

If Dipen Borah can provide a substantial source for the money, it will be returned to him. However, if he fails to do so, the case will be pursued further by the authorities.

The summon to Dipen Borah highlights the enforcement of election regulations and the vigilance of authorities in ensuring compliance with the Model Code of Conduct during the electoral process.
