Assam CM Queries Gaurav Gogoi’s Dual Religious Stance Amidst Political Rallies

In a recent press interaction, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has cast doubt on the religious commitment of Akhil Gogoi and Gaurav Gogoi, both members of the Congress party. Sarma highlighted their participation in Eid festivities while seemingly disregarding the consecration of the Ram Mandir.

Sarma questioned Gaurav Gogoi’s failure to display similar religious fervor during the temple consecration, as witnessed during his participation in protests alongside Rahul Gandhi in Nagaon. The CM emphasized the need for equal respect towards all religious events, suggesting a discrepancy in Gogoi’s actions.

Addressing the media, Sarma stated, “While offering namaz during Eid, Gaurav Gogoi was conspicuous by his absence during the Ram Mandir consecration. This raises questions about his religious sincerity.”

Sarma underscored that the issues faced by Assamese Muslims cannot be resolved through appeasement alone but require initiatives such as state government employment, quality education, and advocacy against child marriage.

Expressing his dismay, Sarma criticized Gaurav Gogoi for prioritizing political protests over religious observance, describing it as a “major sin.” He also questioned Gogoi’s whereabouts when APCC president Bhupen Borah made controversial remarks about Lord Krishna.

The CM concluded by suggesting that the Hindu community is now questioning Gaurav Gogoi’s allegiance to his own religious community, especially following his participation in Eid prayers while protesting on the day of the Ram Temple consecration.
