CPI(M) Still a Major Force in Tripura, Asserts Chief Minister Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the enduring influence of the CPI(M) in the state, despite its six-year absence from power, underscoring that the ruling BJP cannot disregard the Left party’s significance.

Saha underscored the CPI(M)’s historical legacy, citing its substantial governance periods from 1978 to 1988 and then for 25 years between 1993 and 2018. He pointed out the BJP’s electoral challenges, referencing its defeats in Agartala and Banamalipur constituencies during the previous Assembly polls.

Despite these setbacks, Saha expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects in Tripura, particularly in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He voiced confidence in BJP candidates like former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Kriti Singh Debbarma, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious electoral goals.

Responding to criticisms, Saha refuted allegations of democratic erosion under Modi’s leadership, highlighting historical instances of violence during the CPI(M) regime. He praised the current government’s efforts in restoring peace and fostering development in the region.

Addressing recent political developments, Saha acknowledged the integration of Tipra Motha into the BJP-led government, strengthening the party’s presence, especially in tribal areas. He assured the BJP’s commitment to the growth of all its frontal wings, including Janajati Morcha.

Saha credited the BJP’s positive campaign reception to Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives and inclusive policies, citing efforts to facilitate accords with insurgent organizations and northeastern states as pivotal in promoting peace and development.
