Abduction of Gram Panchayat Chairman Sparks Concern in Arunachal Pradesh
In a troubling development amidst preparations for the Lok Sabha Elections, Sangam Wangsu, a Gram Panchayat Chairman and BJP member, was abducted from his home at gunpoint around 1 am today, April 17.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the motive behind the abduction. This incident occurred shortly after reports emerged of alleged threats issued by the banned militant outfit NSCN-KYA to voters in Longding Pumao assembly constituency.
According to reports, residents in villages within the constituency have been coerced into supporting a specific candidate under threat from militants. Leaflets bearing these threats have been distributed in several villages, and armed militants, purportedly linked to NSCN-KYA, have been sighted in the area.
These militants are reportedly pressuring locals at gunpoint to vote for Thangwang Wangham, the candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP). The situation in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, remains tense as authorities work to address these alarming developments and ensure the safety of residents.
