Disciplinary Action Taken After Suspect’s Death in Police Custody Raises Concerns

Following a tragic incident at Mandia Police Outpost, officer-in-charge Susmita Bora faced disciplinary action, and LC Roushan Ali was suspended, while a home guard jawan faced dismissal. Barpeta district superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Yadav initiated these measures after a suspect, apprehended for theft, allegedly took his own life while in custody.

The incident occurred in Mandia Gaon village, Baghbor subdivision, Barpeta district. The deceased, Lutfor Rahman alias Rinku Ali, was arrested by Mandia Police on suspicion of theft. Rahman’s death led to unrest in the community, prompting protests outside the police outpost demanding justice.
