Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Conduct Joint Operations, Seize Contraband Worth Rs 4.34 Crore
In a concerted effort to combat illegal activities, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police collaborated on two operations resulting in the seizure of heroin and smuggled cigarettes valued at over Rs 4.34 crore.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team conducted a raid in Aizawl’s Falkland area, seizing 598 grams of heroin. Two individuals, including a Manipur resident, were arrested in possession of the contraband, estimated at Rs 4.18 crore.
In a subsequent operation in Siaha district, south Mizoram, Assam Rifles intercepted 22,000 packets of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 16 lakh smuggled from Myanmar, highlighting the challenges of cross-border illicit trade.
Simultaneously, Mizoram Police, with assistance from the Young Mizo Association (YMA) volunteers, seized eight trucks loaded with dried areca nuts smuggled from Myanmar in Saitual district. The seized goods’ value is yet to be determined, with ten individuals arrested in connection to the smuggling operation.
These successful operations demonstrate the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb illegal drug and contraband trafficking, ensuring the region’s safety and maintaining law and order.
