Clash Erupts at Polling Booth in Mankachar, Assam; Security Deployed to Restore Order

Tensions flared at a polling booth in Mankachar, situated within Assam’s Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, as clashes broke out between two groups of voters on May 7. The altercation occurred at the No. 158 polling booth in Kathalbari, leading to chaotic scenes outside the premises.

Security personnel swiftly intervened to quell the situation and reinstate order, prioritizing the safety of voters and poll personnel. While the clash briefly disrupted the voting process, efforts were made to swiftly resume normalcy, highlighting the resilience of electoral procedures.

Amidst the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections unfolding in Assam, the cumulative voter turnout across the four constituencies reached 27.34 percent by 11:30 am. Kokrajhar registered the highest polling percentage at 28.28 percent, closely followed by Dhubri at 27.77 percent. Barpeta secured the third position with a turnout of 27.19 percent, while Guwahati recorded 26.25 percent voter participation.

This incident underscores the importance of heightened security measures and vigilant oversight to ensure the seamless conduct of elections and uphold democratic principles amidst challenging circumstances.
