Himanta Biswa Sarma Votes for Different Symbol, Anticipates High Turnout in Final Phase of Assam Elections
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma surprised observers today by announcing that he had chosen to cast his vote for a symbol other than the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Lotus’ in the state’s elections, sparking speculation among political circles.
Speaking to reporters outside the polling station, Sarma clarified, “While I typically support the Bharatiya Janata Party’s symbol ‘Lotus,’ this time I opted for a different symbol.” His revelation ignited discussions among political analysts and the general public alike.
Emphasizing the smooth conduct of the elections, Sarma remarked, “Today marks the culmination of the Assam election process. We have witnessed a peaceful electoral exercise. In the initial two phases, we observed an impressive voter turnout of nearly 80 percent. I am confident that today’s turnout will also reach around 80 percent.”
Praising the absence of violence or disruptions throughout the state, Sarma applauded the enthusiastic participation of the people of Assam in the democratic process, underscoring their dedication to the democratic ethos.
Looking beyond Assam, Sarma expressed optimism regarding the electoral fortunes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners in the Northeast region.
“The BJP and its allies in the Northeast are poised for favorable outcomes,” he declared, attributing the expected success to the developmental initiatives championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the region.
