Murder Unearths Deep-seated Dispute in Barpeta

BARPETA, ASSAM – The tranquil village of Gajia in Barpeta district was jolted by a gruesome discovery when the body of Azim Uddin from Barpalli village was unearthed, revealing a brutal murder that had remained concealed for nearly a week amid heavy rain and strong winds.

The victim, Azim Uddin, had been missing since May 21, prompting his son, Sukur Ali, to file a First Information Report (FIR) on May 22, implicating Mizanur Rahman and his sons in his father’s disappearance. According to family members, a longstanding land dispute between Azim Uddin and Mizanur Rahman’s family is believed to have escalated into this heinous crime.

Expressing his family’s grief, Sukur Ali stated, “Our father had been missing since May 21, and we filed an FIR on the 22nd against Mizanur Rahman. Our father was killed by Mizanur and his relatives because he raised his voice against them in a land dispute.”

Responding promptly to the FIR, law enforcement authorities apprehended the suspects on May 27. Subsequently, on May 28, three of the accused were escorted to the crime scene to aid the police in locating the burial site. With their cooperation, the police team uncovered Azim Uddin’s body, buried in Gajia village.

The Barpeta police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the murder, aiming to ascertain any additional motives or accomplices involved in the crime. The revelation has left the residents of Gajia village reeling in shock and sorrow, underscoring the tragic consequences of unresolved disputes.
