Manipur CM Office Urges Police Report on Suspected Militant Movement

The Manipur Chief Minister’s Office has directed the police department to furnish a report by June 11 concerning actions taken in response to suspected militant movement and violence in the Jiribam district. This directive follows previous instructions issued on January 15, urging the Director General of Police to implement necessary security measures to preempt any untoward incidents.

In January, concerns arose over approximately 200 armed suspected militants migrating from Churachandpur to Phaitol Village, Old and New Kaiphundai areas of Tamenglong district, bordering Jiribam. The CM’s office promptly alerted relevant authorities, including the DG, regarding the need for heightened security in Jiribam.

Copies of instructions issued on January 15, January 27, and January 31, 2024, were enclosed with the recent directive. These documents underscore the proactive approach of the CM’s office in addressing security concerns in the region.

It’s worth noting that the chairmanship of the unified command was revoked on May 31, 2023, further emphasizing the need for robust measures to maintain peace and security in the area.
