In a proactive move to safeguard public health amidst bustling cross-border activities, Meghalaya has initiated vital entomological surveillance at the Dawki Land Port, a pivotal gateway linking India and Bangladesh. The focus is on strengthening medical preparedness and swift response capabilities against the looming threat of dengue fever.

Engaging strategically with personnel, including a crucial meeting with the BSF Nursing Assistant stationed at the Dawki camp, officials emphasized the paramount importance of readiness for medical emergencies. Discussions centered on the necessity of robust dengue prevention measures to stem the potential spread of the disease.

Health authorities spearheading the initiative emphasized the comprehensive approach undertaken, which included consultations with customs and immigration officials. These deliberations prioritized dengue precautions, particularly crucial given the daily influx of over 300 commuters traversing the border, heightening the risk of disease transmission.

Recognizing the pivotal role of transport personnel in disease dissemination, the health department rolled out targeted awareness campaigns, tailored specifically for truck drivers involved in exporting goods to Bangladesh. With the port witnessing a substantial traffic volume of 800 to 900 trucks daily, drivers emerged as key stakeholders in implementing preventive measures. The campaigns aimed to equip them comprehensively, covering personal protective strategies and early symptom recognition for dengue.
