Security Forces Detain PREPAK and KYKL Cadres, Conduct Stringent Operations in Manipur
In a series of proactive operations, security forces in Manipur have apprehended members of two insurgent groups, PREPAK (PRO) and KYKL, in separate incidents, underscoring intensified efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
On June 11, 2024, security personnel successfully arrested Wahengbam Sanathoi Singh, alias Malinga (21 years old), and Huirem Opendro Singh (44 years old), active cadres of PREPAK (PRO), from the Papal Lamkhai area of Thoubal District. The operation yielded significant recoveries, including four mobile phones, Rs. 50,000 in cash, and a vehicle linked to their activities.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation on the same day, security forces apprehended Kshetrimayum Romajit Meitei, known as Polo (32 years old), a member of KYKL, from Waithou Sangomsang in Thoubal District. The operation resulted in the recovery of one HE-36 hand grenade and a mobile phone with a SIM card.
These arrests were part of broader security measures that included extensive search operations and establishment of 123 checkpoints across various districts of Manipur. These efforts aimed to ensure strict vigilance and curb illicit activities, leading to the detention of 66 individuals for various violations. Additionally, security forces facilitated the movement of 255 vehicles transporting essential goods along NH-2, reinforcing stability and logistical support in the region.
Heightened security protocols remain in place, encompassing vulnerable areas with increased patrols and convoy escorts to safeguard against potential threats and maintain public safety. The recent operations underscore the ongoing commitment of security forces to preemptively address insurgent activities and uphold peace in Manipur’s sensitive regions.
