Meghalaya: Elderly Man Injured in Police Dog Attack at West Jaintia Hills PS
An elderly man, Solin Suting, suffered injuries following an unexpected police dog attack inside a police station in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The incident unfolded after Suting was apprehended around 2 am near the India-Bangladesh border and brought to the police station for verification, as he was found in possession of a Bangladeshi ID card, West Jaintia Hills District SP C Syrti stated.
While in custody at the station, a police dog reportedly attacked Suting, resulting in injuries. In a video posted online, Suting alleged that the arresting officers were intoxicated and warned him against disclosing the incident.
SP Syrti has refuted these accusations. Following the dog attack, Suting was taken by his family to a hospital for medical treatment. He has since been discharged after receiving necessary care.
The incident has sparked concerns over police handling procedures and the treatment of detainees in Meghalaya, prompting scrutiny from local authorities and demands for accountability.
